Abstract
This study aims to develop an Employee Mental Fitness Program (EMFP) based on occupational health psychology and study its application to averting stress in the workplace. EMFP consists of: job stress education, relaxation training, finding strength with consideration for simplicity, obligation, positive psychological approach, and educational approach. Employees from the Busan, GyeongNam area were assigned to one of the following three groups: no-training control group, EMFP group and general health promotion program. All participants completed the stress response scale and the brief job stress scale during the pretest and posttest periods. When compared to both the no-training control group and general health promotion group, the EMFP group had significantly lower stress response scale and brief job stress scale scores overall, as well as reduced levels of sub factors such as tension, somatization, anger, depression, fatigue, frustration. This study shows the industrial application and significant impact of psychological programs, such as EMFP, when applied to the workforce to help manage short term job stress.
